How the Sumerians explained thier existance
In the beginning of the Earth there were only gods and goddesses. They had to grow the crops and it was very hard for them. Each god and goddess had a job to do. Some of them worked in the fields and some brought water to keep the fields watered. The gods and goddesses were not happy, as jobs were hard. So they got together and talked about what they should do to lighten up thier work. So, the gods and goddesses went so get advice from Enki, who was sleeping in his underwater home. Enki suggjested that he should create biengs to serve him on the land by doing the gods and goddesses work for them so thier lives would be easier. The gods and godesses thought that Enki's plan was good so Enki gathered clay from the banks of his home and made humans out of it. He breathed life into the humans, but limited how long they would live, because gods and goddesses only can live forever. The humans were put to work as the gods and goddesses servants, working in the fields and providing food for them. The humans grew crops and worked the soil. After hard work, the humans had brought life to land and The gods and goddesses were happy.
