Mesopotamia was the back bone of religion. The Mesopotamian's had the idea of gods making the world and, controlling the world. Since they had the idea of gods we still believe in gods today like, Jesus. They also mummified there dead in reeds. The ancient egyptian's also mummified their dead. |
How did the people worship?
The Ancient Sumerians worshiped a lot of different gods and goddesses. They believed that the gods and goddesses influenced a lot of what happened to them in their lives. |
How Did Civilization Explain It's Existence?
To explain there existence people created several stories of Gods and
Spirits. These Gods allowed them to explain things that were mysteries like wind, The Sun, The Seasons, and Death.
These Gods provided answers to their deepest thoughts. They also provided emotional stability, for example if someones family member died, they could say that they went to heaven, or if someone was ridden with disease, Spirits would cure them. This is how civilization explained it's existence.

Anu Anu was also known as An. Anu was God of the heavens and king of the gods The City associated with is Uruk. Enlil Enlil was God of air, wind and, storms. Enlil wore a crown with horns. Enlil Held the tablets of destiny which made him very powerful. The city associated with the City of Nippur. Enki Enki was the God of wisdom, intellect and, magic. Enki was the shaper of the world. Enki was Responsible for making plants grow. Enki was the God of the city of Eridu. Utu God of the sun, justice, and law. Inanna She was the goddess of love and war. Symbol is a star with eight points. Inanna main city was Uruk also prominent in the city of Babylon. Nanna Nanna was also known as Sin. She was god of the moon. His home city was the city of Ur. How did the people behave when the gods became unhappy or unsatisfied? The ancient Sumerians spent much of their day's finding ways to please their god's How did they feel when they were treated by the gods when they were unhappy? They felt that everything that happened to them whether it's good or bad was because of the gods feeling of pleasure or displeasure. So they could have been worried that something bad could happen to them. |
Who was responsible for pleasing the gods and keeping them satisfied?
How was that accomplished? This was accomplished this way, in the middle of each town there was a temple called a Ziggurat.
